If you were to be in car accident which was your fault with no insurance, and the driver you hit filed a damage lawsuit against you, how long would it take for the law suit to go away?

I was in a car accident last year that was my fault in my sisters car, which i didn’t know was uninsured until the police told me at the scene, to make a long story short, the people i hit suspended my licence and want 10,920 dollars to get it reinstated, I have no money what so ever and don’t know what to do. Can you tell me the absolute best thing to do in my situation?
