The incident started about 4:30 a.m. in the Mercer Island business district, when the officer, on routine patrol, approached two cars that appeared to be involved in a road-rage incident, said Mercer Island Police Commander Leslie Burns. One of the cars took off, leading the officer on a high-speed pursuit, Burns said.
